when i lived in philadelphia my first year out of college it seemed like ALL of my friends were living it up in nyc. everytime i went up for the weekend i had a blast eating out, shopping, partying, bar hopping, basically doing whatever. so i made it my mission to get up to nyc.
philly, of course, paled in comparison and sucked for the following reasons:
- one main going out area "Old City"
- i had no girl friends (i worked with all, and i do mean all guys)
- i couldn't get dinner after 6pm on a sunday.
- i didn't think any interesting people lived there (yeah i know that's a stretch)
- just too darned small
- one day in nyc going to the Gates exhibit, the musuem of natural science, and playing chess pretty much topped any single day i had experienced in philadelphia...
sitting in bryant park today, i started thinking about all my past complaints and wondering if it was really as bad as i made it seem. it was cheaper to live there, i did have more of a "group"to hang out and party with, and i didn't have to walk up 5 flights of stairs to get home everday.
i'm not going to harp on this even though i want to. i just don't think i can be fair to myself or what i wanted so badly once i actually get it.
